Digi Choosday - Wednesdays - Christmas Adult birthday with Polkadoodles

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday... 

It's that time of the week when we share some inspiration for the current 'Anything Goes' challenge over on the Polkadoodles Digi Choosday Blog so I hope you are going to join in.  We've had a few changes to the blog challenge and its now a month long challenge and you can enter up to 4 times.  The design team will still be sharing weekly inspiration for you all

The theme set for the DT this week is to create a Christmas birthday card for an adult.  I've always felt quite sorry for anyone with a birthday at Christmas as I think far too often their celebration gets lumped in with Christmas so I'm pleased mine is in July.  This card will be winging its way over to the UK for my cousins birthday at the end of December.

Because we have been so busy lately with the olives and I haven't had much time for crafting, I decided for my card today to use one of the gorgeous pre-coloured images poinsettia swags from the Poinsettia Wreath bundle.  

In my graphics software, I started with a piece of digital paper from the Jolly Santa collection, resizing this to suit a 5" x 7" or A7 card blank.  Next I added the poinsettia swag, resizing to suit the panel and also added one of the sentiments from the new Theo Penguin collection.  To create extra dimension I decided to print out two extra poinsettias and then fussy cut these out, adding to my design using 3D glue gel.

The panel was layered onto gold mirri card and I then splattered gold and silver metallic watercolour paint over the design.

To finish off my card I added some stickles to the centre of the flowers for a little extra sparkle.

Be so awesome people think you're a Myth - New Release - Aquatic Adventures with Julia McNeill Designs

Hello everyone Happy Monday I hope that you had a great weekend.  

It's time for me to post an project for JMC Designs  and also its my final MerMay project. There's still a few days left of May so plenty of time to join in with the challenge and don't forget there will be a prize awarded to someone.

 

The prompt for today from JMC Designs is 'Mythical & Magical' so I decided to create a magical scene using the pre-coloured images from the brand new digital collection Aquatic Adventures. 

Several years ago we were very lucky to be at a wedding in the Monterey Bay Aquarium California and at the time there was the most amazing jellyfish experience/exhibition with tanks full of the most amazing jellyfish and they were definitely magical with their glowing neon lights.

I started by choosing one of the papers from the collection and then resized this to fit a 5" x 7" card blank.  To give my design dimension I added a couple of jellyfish, and making them smaller to appear in the background. 

I added a third larger jellyfish towards the bottom centre of the design, to appear in the foreground and also resized the gorgeous mermaid Oceania so she would appear to sit on the bridge.  

I added a little starfish at the bottom of the image. 

Then I separated the mermaid and the larger jellyfish from the design and made an exact copy of the coral and rocks at the bottom before printing out. 

Next I fussy cut out the mermaid, the larger jellyfish and some of the coral at the bottom of the design.  

Don't worry if you're not great at fussy cutting, you can always use a dark grey or black marker pen to carefully outline the edge and no one will ever know. 

To assemble the card I adhered the background peice onto a peice of teal metallic card and then used foam squares to adhere the mermaid, jellyfish and the coral at the bottom of the panel.  

I splattered the card with a pearl silver watercolour paint and added extra metallic bubbles around the design.  

The sentiment was printed out and cut into 3 simple strips, blending a little blue ink to tone down the white of the card, before adhering to the card.

The finishing touches to the card were some teal confetti around the design, glossy accents to the bubbles in the water and white gel pen highlights.

I Love Promarkers #557 - Shapes - Sponsored by Sheepski Designs

Here is my inspiration card for the current blog challenge with the theme - Use Shapes, using the very beautiful Wild Roses digital stamp.  

My favourite colour combination at the moment is yellow and purple, they are such happy Spring colours so I decided my wild roses would be a pale yellow. Todays card is a 5" x 7" portrait card. 

I resized the digital image to suit my design and then printed out on alcohol marker friendly card stock before colouring with Promarkers (see below for colours) and fussy cutting out. 

I then used my Minc machine to apply rose gold foil over the top of the floral image, it gives it such a beautiful finish.

Next I created the background panel, starting with a piece of white card stock, I used several hexagon dies to cut out apertures in the panel and then used a floral embossing folder to add texture.                                                                                                 

I used a piece of purple designer paper adhering this behind the apertures and then splattered gold metallic paint over the entire panel.  

Once dry I mounted the panel onto my card blank using foam tape and then used foam tape to add the wild rose sprig over the design. 

The finishing touches were a few pieces of rose gold confetti around the design and a simple strip sentiment.

Sending you a warm hug - Altenew - Japanese Anemone

Hello and Happy Thursday everyone! I hope you are having a great week.

If you are anything like me as a crafter, I am always buying new stamps, dies, papers etc that I absolutely NEED but then don't seem to have the time to actually play with them!..I've always been the same even when I was little I absolutely loved stationery and pens and notebooks! (hated using them though as I didn't want to spoil them)

So this year I am going to do my utmost to use my, new purchases and make sure I get use out of them.

My first creation is using a stamp/stencil/die set from Altenew that I bought from Simon Says Stamp with a voucher that I was lucky enough to win last year.  

It's from the Build a Garden collection and this is the Japanese Anemone.  My goal will be to create as many different cards using different techniques and mediums that I can using this set over the next few weeks in between my other DT commitments.

I had some of these beautiful flowers in the garden here when we moved over but no idea what happened to them - flowered for a few years and then disappeared, I must get some more bulbs.

I started by cutting a panel of white Neenah cardstock to fit a 5" x 7" card and then stamped the image using Versafine Onyx black ink. Then I used the stencils from the set and distress inks to colour the flowers and leaves. 

There are 5 stencils that coordinate with the stamped image and its really easy to line up too.  Using different amounts of pressure when applying the ink allows you to build up depth in the flowers (darker at them centres).  

Once I was happy with the coverage I used the coordinating die to cut out the flower stem and put this to one side whilst I created my background.

  

Next I moved on to my background, cutting a piece of white watercolour card to start off and adding the yellows and green distress inks to my silicone mat to ink smoosh these onto the card.  I like to add one colour at a time and build up the layers, drying each one off before adding a new colour. 

Once I was happy with the amount of colour I then added a very small amount of Brushos to the panel and spritzed this with water to let the magic happen - these powders are just amazing and I love the movement they give to a design. 

I dried the panel off completely and then used some nesting dies to cut out the background panel and a slightly larger panel of black card, adhering these to my white card blank. 

I then used one of the sentiments and stamped this in black directly onto the card background.  

The floral peice was adhered to the card with foam tape and then I splattered gold watercolour over the panel.  

To finish off I added some tiny black gems around the design.

New Release - Bumble Buzz Collection with JMC Designs

Hello everyone I hope you are having a lovely weekend.  I'm on my blog today with a very cute card that made for JMC Designs ...its not my normal day to post a project but I couldn't resist sharing this cutie.

There's lots of excitement in the JMC Crafty Hive as there is a new collection about to be launched.  Its the fabulous Bumble Buzz collection and I love it.

This new collection is launching on Create & Craft TV on the 9th of February at 12 noon and 5pm in two special anniversary shows with Julia McNeill Crafts.

For my very happy bee card filled with love, I've used the Bumble Buzz Digital collection, to create an eclipse style card. 

For todays card I decided to use the beautiful Heart Bee digital stamp, resizing her  to suit my 5" x 7" card and colouring with my Promarkers, before fussy cutting out.

I added clear sparkle to my little bees wings and used a white gel pen to add highlights.

The background for my card is one of the gorgeous papers from the collection, printed out and cut to size.

For the eclipse design I used a heart die to cut out the centre from the paper panel and then adhered this to my black scalloped

edge die cut card panel.  I used the same heart die to cut several more hearts in black card to stack up the printed paper heart before popping it back onto the background panel. This gives lots of lovely dimension and you can see the black border when you tilt the card.

I've used my metallic watercolour paints to splatter shine across the entire panel and allowed this to dry before adding this to my landscape 5 x 7 card blank.

 

My sweet little bee was then adhered onto the design on an angle.

The sentiment from the digital collection was printed out and foiled in gold to coordinate with the card and added to the design finishing off the card with gold confetti and glossy accents on the bees antenna.

Digi Choosday - October Birthday with Polkadoodles

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday.  Wishing you all a lovely day today and that you enjoy the week ahead, I hope that you have something nice planned.

It's that time of the week when we launch a brand new 'Anything Goes' challenge over on the Polkadoodles Digi Choosday Blog so I hope you are going to join in and don't forget the amazing discount off all crafty printable downloads until midnight today!

The theme set for the DT this week is an October birthday and to use a colour palette.

I think I've already mentioned that Autumn colours are probably my favourite colours in the garden and in the surrounding mountains where we live....I wish the leaves didn't make so much mess on the patios but hey ho...small things!

For todays card I decided to use one of the fabulous digi deals the Alcea Hollyhock digital stamp set, this is another wonderful set of flowers, pre-coloured and black and white and includes 5 coordinating papers and 5 sentiments.

I wanted to make a birthday card for my Auntie as its her birthday in October and she loves her garden so I thought this image would be perfect. 

Its a 5 x 7" card - and I started by adding one of the pre-coloured flower images to a panel of one of the digital papers in my graphics software, along with one of the sentiments from the set.  I wanted the image and sentiment to overhang the white border around the panel of the patterned paper, so resized the floral image and then copied this so I had another exactly the same size.

Next I have liberally splattered gold paint over the image panel, allowing this to completely dry before adding it to my card blank.

I used a metallic pen to draw a fine line around the paper panel just for an extra little detail.

The second flower stem was then fussy cut out, choosing some of the flowers and a few of the leaves - I wanted these to be in the foreground so mounted these using foam squares for dimension.

Finally I have blended a little distress ink over the popped up flowers, using two of the colours from the colour palette.

Gold metallic pen was used to add the flowers stems back into the image and then I have scattered gold confetti around the design.

I Believe in Magic with Polkadoodles

Hello everyone……wishing you all a wonderful Tuesday with lots of lovely sunshine and some sparkly magic too!

I'm back today with my Polkadoodles Design Team project for the Digi Choosday Tuesday Challenge

This week the DT was asked to make a 'Magical or Fantasy ' themed card so for me it had to be a unicorn of course and I chose to use the Hooray Sparkle Unicorn digital stamp from the amazing Sparkles Unicorn - Believe in Rainbows collection.

For my card I have used the black and white version of the stamp but its also available in a beautiful easy to use coloured version too and don't forget there is the Big Kahuna bundle available too with gorgeous papers, embellies and loads of sentiments too!

For this card I started with the background first and used one of my favourite combinations of distress oxides to create a lovely blended panel.  I splattered this with water to activate the oxidation effect of the inks and then splattered the panel with gold metallic paint from my Lisa Horton Crafts - Euphoria Watercolour palette.

To add a little more magic to the background I added some little stars using a posca pen.

Its so hard to see the magical sparkle in the photo.

Next it was time to have some fun colouring my unicorn with my Promarkers (see colours below). I selected pens to match the inks that I used on my background panel.

I used the SVG file that comes with the digital stamp and my Scan n Cut machine to cut out the design before adhering her to the background panel with foam tape for added dimension.

Finishing touches were some clear sparkle pen on parts of the image and a hand drawn wavy border around the panel on the base card which is a white 5 x 7 card blank.

 I coloured my unicorn with my Promarkers but decided that she was going to be pink not the usual white - did you know that pink Unicorns are extra magical.

The sentiment at the bottom is from the Winnie Daisy Fairy greetings bundle printed onto vellum.
