Digi Choosday - Spring Animals - Lucy Monkman - Spring Card - Bunny & Birds - with Polkadoodles

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday... I hope that you're having a great week.  Wishing you all a very happy April too. 

It's nearly time to celebrate Easter, only a couple of days away and that will mark the end of our 2 weeks of Semana Santa here in Spain.

It's that time of the week to share some more inspiration for our current 'Anything Goes' challenge over on the Polkadoodles Digi Choosday Blog so I hope you are going to join in and don't forget the amazing Digi Choosday discount off all crafty printable downloads!

The theme set for the DT this week is to make a Spring Animals themed project or card. Springtime is such a wonderful time as the garden really seems to come alive and the colours and smells from all the blossom around the garden is amazing - all the rain we had earlier on in the year has really helped the plants.  

I decided to create a very simple one layer card today using one of the gorgeous quirky designs from the Lucy Monkman collection.  These are just the sweetest images and they really don't need lots of difficult colouring and I think are perfect when you want to create something quick simple and fun.

I chose the Bunny and Birds image, printing it out onto an A6 panel of alcohol marker friendly card.  I also printed out the same image on paper too as I was planning on creating some masks for my design.

I coloured the images with my promarkers and then fussy cut out the masks from paper, adhering these over my coloured images using a repositionable glue.  I added glossy accents to the musical notes rather than cutting masks and allowed this to completely dry.

Next I created the background gently blending distress inks to create a pretty cloudy sky and some hills.

Once I was happy with the background I carefully removed the little masks.

To finish off the card I added little white gel pen highlights around the design.

Digi Choosday - SVG Spring is Here - Spring Card - 3d Pop up Card - Gnome for Spring Collection - with Polkadoodles

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday... I hope that you're having a great week.  It's the middle of March and its definitely beginning to look a lot like Spring here - buds on the trees starting to burst open, beautiful fragrant almond blossom and there's a definite buzz in the garden now.

The theme set for the DT this week is to make a Spring or Easter themed card and to use this colour palette 

One of my crafting goals this year, as you know is to use my ScanNCut machine more so I set myself the challenge to use one of the wonderful Digital Print and Cut Files and make a 3D pop up card.  Two completely new things for me to learn and I am so happy with the end result.

I started off with the Files from the Spring is Here download and worked out how to print these and use the Cut file included to cut out the images....

The really simple way was was to print out the coloured image file, scan in the image and then use this direct to cut tool, but I discovered that the detailed cuts were missing.  

Not a huge problem I know and the elements as still beautiful as they are but I wanted to get the detailed cuts too.  It took me a few attempts to work out which files to use with my ScanNCut machine but I did it in the end using the high quality png file and the dxf cut line only was the combination that worked for me.

But then I wanted to push myself further as the coloured images didn't match the colour palette Nikky had asked us to use.  So I set to work again, working out which file I needed to use that I could edit and alter the colours, I also wanted extra copies of the butterflies and tulips for my design.  Once I was happy I  recreated the cut file, using the original version to suit my new image.

I'm so happy it worked - took me a few hours to work out what I was doing but it was so worth it and will be quicker next time !

Next I designed my Pop Up Box in the Brother CanvasWorkspace and once cut out set to decorating my Spring card.

The finished card folds flat and  fits an A6 or 6" x 4" envelope.  

I adhered some of the wood grain paper from the Udderly Cute collection to the card inserts - I think they look like benches in a little greenhouse.  The back Arched panel of the pop up was covered with one of the lilac papers from the Flower Meadow bundle.

I assembled all the cut out elements, adding a little distress ink here and there to emphasise the shadows etc.

To finish off the card I added confetti around the design and added some clear sparkle to the butterflies.

Hello everyone wishing you all a lovely day - it feels like ages since I've updated my blog, this last few weeks have been awful with my labyrinthitis so no crafting, no reading and definitely no work on the computer.  Things are improving and my new hearing aid is helping with the tinnitus but I'm still struggling to look down for very long.... fingers crossed it stops soon

Anyway - Spring is in the air and the sun is shining so that's definitely a positive - it just makes everyone feel so much better after all the horrid winds and heavy rainfall we've had.

As Spring flowers are popping up around the garden I decided today to use stamps from Lili Of The Valley LOTV  I used the Flower Alphabet set for the word Spring and then for the smaller Wishes the Everyday Greetings set, colouring these with my Promarkers before cutting out on my ScanNCut.

I created a split DL card, using pretty Spring floral paper for the design and adhering the large letters across the gap in the panel.

The finishing touches were some sparkly flower sequins and glossy accents to some of the little flowers.

Spring Colours - Cute Animal - Digi Choosday - Spring is in the Air with Polkadoodles

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday.  I hope that you have a lovely day today and that you enjoy your week ahead...

It's that time of the week when we launch a brand new 'Anything Goes' challenge over on the Polkadoodles Digi Choosday Blog so I hope you are going to join in and don't forget the amazing discount off all crafty printable downloads until midnight today!

The theme set for the DT this week is to use Spring Colours and an animal, there are so many gorgeous cuties on the website to choose from so it was quite difficult.

Today's card features one of the gorgeous digital stamps from the Springtime Smiles Collection - this collection is packed with cute chicks and bunnies do perfect for this weeks theme. I chose a couple of pretty pastel papers from the collection and then used these pastel shades as inspiration to colour the image with Promarkers, picking out the lemon and green as my main colours (see below for the colours used). 

 

I've said but that I don't often make pastel coloured cards, opting for brighter richer shades but I enjoyed this design and I wanted to colour the bunny white. 

This is a 5" x 7" card  with a scalloped frame die cut and diamond die cuts too to draw the eye to the bunny who is the feature after all. 

The smaller centre panel of the diamonds was embossed using a new 3D embossing folder that I bought with prize money from Simon Says Stamp and its the first time I have used it.  

I adhered the papers, diamond borders and the embossed panel to the card blank and then added the cute bunny to the embossed diamond using foam tape for dimension 

The sentiment is from the Darling Buds collection and after printing I have foiled this with a mint foil before adding the simple sentiment panel to the card.

  

To finish the inside of the card I decided to die cut a floral border from the white card, adding this to the edges of the card panels covered with lilac paper. 

Finishing touches where some super sparkly and coordination sequins and white  gel pen highlights.

Have a Blooming Great Day! - Darling Buds - Tulip Darling with Polkadoodles

Hello and happy Thursday everyone.  Wishing you all a lovely day today....I cant believe how fast this week has gone...we've been full of bad colds and coughs so struggled to do much but I've managed to get out in the garden this morning to do a little tidying and then I'm off to make lunch.

The new bathroom downstairs is nearly finished, just another day or so if fitting things and JJ is currently busy painting the ceiling - its amazing how light the room looks now compared to before!

Are you making cards for Mother's Day - its this Sunday (in the UK) in case you have forgotten and I think the Darling Buds collection would be perfect, so today I'm sharing a card made using the Tulip Darling digital stamp.

There are some fabulous new Spring /Mother's Day sentiments too that compliment the collection and as always there are pre-coloured and black and white digital stamps for you to colour and there are polymer stamps too if you prefer.

To create this beautiful card I chose a couple of pink & yellow papers from the Winnie Sunshine Delights collection and used these to mat and layer with black card on a 5" x 7" card blank.  I love the contrast that the black gives behind these papers.

I decided to use one of the sweet floral border stamps from the Funky Borders stamp set with black ink to stamp a little detail on a couple of the layers, colouring the flowers with a pink Fineliner pen and adding tiny lemon gems for the flower centres.

Next I resized the Digital stamp to suit my card, coloured her in with Promarkers and then fussy cut her out.

My favourite tulips are yellow and pink - what are your favourite ?

The sentiment is from the Darling Buds collection which was printed out and foiled in hot pink to match my design.

The finishing touches were a few pieces of pink confetti around the design

Inky Spring Butterflies with Polkadoodles

Hello everyone I hope you are having a lovely weekend and hopefully the sun is shining where you are today. 

I am here on my blog to share a Spring card that I've made for Polkadoodles using 2 sets of beautiful new photopolymer clear stamps and a fabulous leaf stencil, it's a set called Hearts and Flowers and it was so much fun to play with.  the stamps and stencil are available as a bundle or or separately.

I love playing with my inks and creating and haven't made this type of card for ages.

I'm sure you all know how much I love to upcycle, so my card today uses one of my inky mop up kitchen roll sheets. I have a sheet of kitchen roll on my desk for a few weeks and use it to wipe up any residual inks, then when it looks pretty I use it to create a card. No waste and it's free, unique and beautiful !

I started by creating the background, blending squeezed lemonade distress ink over a piece of card measuring 3 1/2" x 5 1/2".

Next I have secured the panel to my glass craft mat and positioned the stencil over the panel. 

Using Shabby shutters I have gently blended this across the stencil, being careful not to lift up the stencil.

Leaving the stencil in place I have added a small amount of forest moss distress ink to the base of the leaves.

Next I have added a little Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pen in Cornflower Blue to my glass mat and added a drop of water.  I have then used a brush to splatter this sparkly ink over the panel.

The Stencil can then be removed and washed and the panel left to dry completely before being adhered to my base card, matting with a layer of black card.

Next I have adhered a piece of my inky mop up kitchen roll to some thin card, I use a basic glue stick to do this.

Set to one side to dry fully.

Once dry I have used the beautiful butterfly  from the set and stamped 3 butterflies on the sheet, in Versafine onyx black ink.

I only want 2 for this project but its a good idea to have a spare just in case.

I love the added texture that the kitchen roll adds to the images.

Once the stamped images are completely dry I have then fussy cut them out.

I decided to add a little more colour and sparkle to the butterflies using  a pink garnet and blue cornflower Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen, to tie them into the colours of ink on the kitchen roll.  I've added a little black sparkle pen to the bodies of the butterflies too.

Next, I have used the Spring sentiment stamp from the set, stamping in black ink before adding 2 butterflies to the design.

When you have fussy cut out the butterflies, if there are any pale card edges you can use a black marker to carefully cover these if you like. - I use a water based pen rather than an alcohol marker.

Finally I have scattered some black gems across the design to tie the images and the sentiment together and drawn in the antennae for the butterflies (its easier to cut this off rather than try to fussy cut out)

New Release - Spring into Easter - Chocolate Time Chick with Polkadoodles

The theme set for the DT this week is Easter so I chose to use one of the sweet little Chicks from the latest collection called Spring into Easter for my card today.

This naughty little chick is called Chocolate Time Chick - isn't he naughty eating all that chocolate and blaming it on poor Bunny!

I've used a couple of the papers from the new collection from set 2 and set 3 to create a background for my sweet chick adding a cheeky sentiment from the Spring into Easter Messages bundle to the striped background before printing it out.  

I decided to make a fun shaker card so die cut an oval from this striped panel - to look like an egg and added yellow and pink sequins into my shaker element.  I like to adhere some of the sequins to the background card, this make sure that there are always sequins in view in the window when the card is stood up for display.

This collection is packed with cute little chicks that I think are perfect for loads of different Spring occasions and not just for Easter cards and I'm sure that you are going to love them.

Spring Dahlias with Polkadoodles

Hello everyone Happy Friday...I hope that your week has gone well and you are looking forward to a lovely weekend.  

We are well into the start of celebrations here on the run up to Easter, there is lots of activity going on in the local church in preparation and loads of rockets being fired into the sky (these are said to represent  the prayers being sent to God - its a real Marmite issue here - either love it or hate it) 

Personally I love it and we knew all about the rockets before we decided to move here, its amazing how many people didn't seem to do their research first though and constantly complain on social media.

But first there is a celebration next Thursday when the statue of Christ is lowered from the alter... its called Cristo de la Expiración 

The Festival of the Holy Christ of the Expiration of Órgiva  celebrated on the Friday before Friday of Dolores, that is, two Fridays before Good Friday.  The Christ of the Expiration is patron saint of the Alpujarra and also the co-patron saint of our town of Órgiva.

On Thursday at 12 noon, the statue of Christ is lowered from behind the alter, one of the most emotional moments for the people of Órgiva  ...this is accompanied by the loudest rockets you will ever hear, the main street is closed off and the crowds have to stand well back or crowd into the local bars to watch and listen as the bangers sound, there are stories of windows being shattered by the explosions.

Then on Friday at 6pm a procession leaves the church, travelling very slowly through the narrow streets up to a small Hermita at the top of the town and then back to the main church, this procession ends around 2 in the morning with fireworks!  It's definitely a special thing to watch and is very moving even if you aren't religious.

I'm back today to share a beautiful Spring card that I've made with the pre-coloured  Dahlia Flower 1 digital download from Polkadoodles

The digital set includes 2 digital stamps, 1 line art and one is pre-coloured, 2 matching sentiments and 3 coordinating papers in the Polkadoodles store 

I wanted to create a DL (UK size) Frame style card - there are lots of stamps and dies on the market that you can use to achieve this but I decided to create my own and do a little fussy cutting.

I started by adding multiple copies of the Dahlia flower image around the edge of a panel on my computer in my graphics software and then printed this out before cutting out the centre of the panel.  

Next I printed a piece of the striped paper from the kit, cutting this to fit my DL card and positioned my alphabet dies in the centre of this - I chose to user Easter as my text but this would be perfect for a Mothers Day card of Easter card too, or even just personalised.

It's quite difficult to see, but this is also an Eclipse card, you cut the letters out and then raise them up on extra layers of card for dimension. Definitely better seen in real life as they say.

Once the letters have been adhered back into the card I have added my dahlia frame to the panel and added just a few contrasting sequins added around the design.

New Release - Spring into Easter - Butterfly Chick with Polkadoodles

Hello everyone I hope that you have had a lovely week and are enjoying your Sunday.  Were just prepping for friends coming round today for our first BBQ of the year! but I  thought I'd pop on to share a new card.

I've made this sweet Spring card using the new Spring Into Easter collection from Polkadoodles. 

This card is made using the Butterfly Chick digital stamp coloured my my Promarkers (see below for colours) and if your a Polkadoodles VIP then you will have received an email to give you a special VIP discount off this collection for a short time.

I've used a couple of the papers from the new collection to create a background for my sweet chick adding my Spring sentiment to the blue background before printing it out.  I chose to position one of the pale circles behind my sentiment on this card as I think it looks like the sunshine in the background.

The small hill at the bottom of the card has been cut using one of my Edgecutz dies and I have also added a little cross stitched border to the top and bottom of the panel for added detail.

This collection is packed with cute little chicks that I think are perfect for loads of different occasions not just for Easter cards and I'm sure that you are going to love them.
